The history of the industry started in the early 1970’s, when Malaysia embarked on export oriented industrialisation which has led to the growth of the Textile and Apparel industry. In the following years, the existence of strong competition in this region has caused the industry to expand and become more innovative in meeting global market demand.

Started with weaving mills and producing grey cotton fabrics, today, Malaysian Textile and Apparel industry has been categorised into two main sub-sectors, Textile that involves a broad range of activities such as polymerisation, spinning, weaving and knitting; and Apparel, which is responsible for producing garment and clothing accessories such as buttons, zippers and packaging. To-date, major export destinations for this industry are United States, Japan, Turkey, Indonesia and China.

ABOUTMATRADE and TEXTILE AND APPARELe-SHOWCASE

As the national export promotion agency of Malaysia, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, better known as MATRADE introduces its first Textile and Apparel e-Showcase. This online web based project covers various companies from the local Textile and Apparel Industry with the aim to promote and enhance the exports of Malaysian products in the international market.

 

From top designers of high-couture collection to new designers with great potential and large factories which are undertaking contract manufacturing, these companies are offering products and services for the rising global market. Among the products being showcased are haute couture and ready to wear collections, bridal collections, batik and songket products, specially designed textiles, accessories and many more. The showcase also exhibits the beauty of Malaysian heritage, Batik and Songket.

 

To provide viewers with clearer images of the various products of Malaysian companies, some of all these products are being displayed in 3D format. Full details of companies are provided to enable interested customers to contact and discuss business proposition.

 

This showcase serves as a platform for Malaysia to be recognised internationally as a high quality producer of Textile and Apparel, delivering excellence, reliability and trustworthiness. Through this showcase, it hoped that international customers will be able to identify relevant Malaysian companies to foster business partnerships.
